Practicing self-care, or loving yourself, can be overlooked or forgotten when developing other important healthy habits on your journey to optimal wellbeing. Incorporating self-care into your daily actions is also critical to your overall success on Plan.

Think of the meaning of self-care versus health care. Self-care is deliberate – a self-prompted practice of caring for your body and mind proactively – arming you with important tools to replenish, revive and rejuvenate your inner self. Alternatively, health care is generally reactive in nature; professionals are sought out to help repair, remedy or improve an illness or injury.

Incorporating self-care into your everyday choices and daily routine will keep you proactive and ahead of any reactive situations so you can easily deal with those that arise along the way.

Practice baby steps to achieve better self-care. Start by repeating these positive affirmations at the beginning or end of every day:

  • I am worthy of the life I want.
  • I deserve to make myself a priority and invest the time and energy needed to keep myself healthy.
  • Every day, I will take small steps toward optimal health.
  • I choose to let go of the habits that don’t serve my goals.
  • I love, appreciate, and will nurture myself.
  • I will take the time to proactive deep breathing in stressful situations.
  • I will fully evaluate my stress by taking a step back and thinking through an action plan to help me overcome these feelings.

There are other self-care, and coping exercises to learn and practice every day. Reach out to me, your OPTAVIA Coach, to take a deeper dive into this topic. I am here to help and support you in every step of your journey.
